Ex-Caserma Amione Masterplanning and Architectural Competition asked for a program with contemporary solutions for the forthcoming new public headquarter of the Turin City Council. Being inserted in a semi-central area of Turin, the competition asked for an in-deep study on the relation between the new buildings and the neighborhood for complete integration. It also recalled a well-thought relationship with the existing building to be maintained. Most of the existing buildings could be removed, except for the most historical one. The proposal recalls the historical industrial shed hosting office buildings and located in an ex-industrial area. Some of them have wide-open spaces for lobbies, waiting rooms, distribution spaces all guaranteeing adequate conditions of wellbeing thanks to a perfect micro-climate.
Moreover, stairs on different levels connect conference rooms and informal meeting spaces, highlighting the physical and visual connections among different floors. Laa has specifically worked on the office space concept and layout.
While designing the office space, high consideration has been paid to people’s psychological and physical comforts. The microclimate conditions have been evaluated to supply natural light correctly, being screened by the glass facade. The glass facade allows us to maintain the relationship with the open spaces and with nature ensuring countless views of the gardens.
